Ingredients


  • Whole black gram (sabut urad) 1/2 cup
  • Red kidney beans (rajma) 3 tbs
  • channa dal 1 tbs 
  • Salt  acc to taste
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Butter 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
  • Ginger paste 1 tsp
  • Garlic paste 1tsp
  • Onion chopped 1 large
  • Green chillies 2
  • Tomatoes puree of 2 tomatoes 
  • Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon
  • Cinnomon 1 stick


Method


  1. wash and soak all dals including black gram , rajma and channa dal overnight in water. 
  2. Boil black gram and kidney beans (rajma)in three cups of water with salt, add bit red chilli powder and cinnamon stick. Boil it for 6-7 whistle .
  3. Heat butter in a pan. Add cumin seeds, when they begin to give aroma , add ginger and  garlic paste with chopped onion and sauté till golden.
  4. Add green chillies, tomatoes puree and sauté . Add the remaining red chilli powder and sauté till the tomatoes are reduced to a pulp.
  5. Add the cooked dal and rajma along with the gravy. Add some water if the mixture is too thick. Add garam masala powder and adjust salt.
  6. When Dal is bit cool then blend in the dal in Hand Blender and blend it 3-4 times this is the important step for dal makhni otherwise your dal will be normal dal.
  7. If you want to give extra flavors like restaurants then you have to add one more step i.e burn one coal on your gas stove when it burn properly then put it in small bowl and place it on your cooked dal for about 10 minutes and lid the pressure cooker after that remove it your dal makhni is ready to serve.
  8. serve hot with naans or rice.
